Surviving January - Loving YOU first
Well its definitely an improvement on the previous blog efforts. A second blog post in a month! Success!
Anyway whats this one all about? Well following from the last post where I was waxing lyrical about the pressures we put ourselves under in what is the most most depressing month of the year ( lets face it bad weather, debt, overeating and so forth makes January horrid) I thought I would expand on the futility of new year new you.
Firstly I am a great believer in learning to love who you are. For most young people today their visual cues on what they should look like and act like are so far from the bounds of reality that it can be particularly damaging. I feel however, that whilst we should challenge the media and society to identify more realistic and healthy norms, more time should be spent on coaching young people to be more confident, but at the same time more self-aware about their own responsibilities to their own bodies and minds.
We all get one body and one mind to use throughout the duration of our short stay on earth. And during that time, ultimately when we get to adulthood, the decisions about what we eat, learn, do and think are controlled by us as individuals. Yes we can be influenced, but ultimately we control what we do. I was at a sports psychology event last night in an attempt to improve my mental fitness when out riding the home bred mare with her own mind!
The night was useful, and common sense, and didn't tell me anything I did not already know but reminded me how much I forget to practice and work on my mental fitness. It also refreshed and strengthened my belief that as individuals we forget just how much power and control we have within ourselves, and that worrying about things out of our control is a complete waste of time.
So not a new you then, just a new way of thinking about you!
