Surviving January - Loving YOU first

Well its definitely an improvement on the previous blog efforts. A second blog post in a month! Success! Anyway whats this one all about? Well following from the last post where I was waxing lyrical about the pressures we put ourselves under in what is the most most depressing month of the year ( lets face it bad weather, debt, overeating and so forth makes January horrid) I thought I would expand on the futility of new year new you. Firstly I am a great believer in learning to love who you are. For most young people today their visual cues on what they should look like and act like are so far from the bounds of reality that it can be particularly damaging. I feel however, that whilst we should challenge the media and society to identify more realistic and healthy norms, more time should be spent on coaching young people to be more confident, but at the same time more self-aware about their own responsibilities to their own bodies and minds. We all get one body and one mind to us...

New year, new you, blah, blah blah....??

Its only the 4th of January and I am already bored by the promises of a new year and a new me. These new me's will arrive apparently if I focus on not eating certain foods, or generally any foods, abstaining from alcohol (all types), drinking skinny coffee (????), or promising to religiously take some variety of slimming pill or shake that requires me to part with a significant amount of cash for the privilege. NOPE. Am not doing it. I don't want a new me. However I may want a slightly improved version of me perhaps, or may be not. That is my prerogative. Achieving the age of 40 (+) has enlightened me to the fact that I am what I choose to be. Should I choose to be a slightly lighter version, then not unsurprisingly I need to eat/drink less and exercise more. Should I require to be more sociable then I will focus on meeting with friends and family a little more. Should I require to be a little more knowledgeable, I will pick up a course or study more.
